Kitchen Island Electrical Outlets

Today I want to talk about kitchen island electrical outlets.

In the past, the building code required you to have an electrical outlet in your island, and sometimes it can be kind of awkward.  For instance in my home, the outlet went into the side of the island behind doors creating a little shallow charging shelf.  The new code requires it to be on top of the island.  These products are really cool.  I am thinking of retrofitting my island because right now, I have to run a cord outside the side door to the top of my island to charge my phone if I want to be able to keep an eye on my phone, as opposed to it being inside the cabinet.

Also you would need to check the specific code in your county.  This change is in the National Electric Code, which was changed believe it or not in 2023, and individual counties may be slow to adopt the national code.

I hope this bit of info has been helpful.  And remember, if you are thinking of buying or selling, my team and I are on standby 7 days a week ready to help you take the smoother road to sold.
