What is the best practice if you receive a low offer when selling your home?
It is difficult to not get emotional when you receive an offer on the home you’re selling, especially when it’s a low offer. It is very tempting to just decline abruptly without countering.
The best practice, however, is to stay firm with yourself that you are not selling at that price and instead craft a counteroffer.
It is easy to get emotional and have a knee-jerk reaction and turn down the offer altogether with no counter offer, HOWEVER, you never know where you might be able to land at with the buyer. So, take a chance and give them a written counteroffer. Perhaps you can meet in some middle ground.
Some buyers automatically submit low offers, but many times have plenty of wiggle room in what they are really willing to pay. Don’t let a buyer go without at least giving them a counteroffer that you could be happy with if it comes to an agreement on both terms.
