Are you thinking of making a few updates to your home and wondering what is in style? Today I want to share with you some finishes that are trending in new construction homes that you might want to incorporate if you are doing some updating.
Some upgrades would be fairly easy to do like:
• Repainting walls & trim whites or cream colors throughout the home
• Full wall paneling treatment in dining room
• Ceiling treatments
• Ceiling beams and entry accent wood treatment
• Accent wall treatments in other rooms like game or bonus rooms
• Brick accents
• Some built-ins surrounding fireplace and some with floating shelves
• Black windows
And some would require a little more work if you are actually living in the home like:
• Refinishing dark wood floors to be the lighter wood floors
• Changing kitchen cabinets so they go all the way to the ceiling. *Note: still lots of white cabinets with lighter color countertops is what we are primarily seeing.
• Need a bathroom update anyway? Slipper tubs and not just in white are a big trend away from the big jacuzzi tub.
• Large and sometimes dark bathroom tiles…means fewer grout lines to clean.
And on the exterior, we are still seeing a lot of white homes but with the black trim-work on the windows, some brick accents, and black gutters. And some darker gray & charcoal homes are now being built and they are spectacular.
A good way to see what is current in your area is to visit a new construction open house! This is a good way to see what current home buyers prefer, especially if you are thinking of selling anytime in the future. You can go ahead and upgrade to help for when you sell, but you will also get to enjoy it in the meantime!
