What are some of the best ways to hide you and your kids’ clutter when you need to prepare your home for showings while it’s on the market?
First, as I tell my own clients, make a plan to store everything in plain sight. For example, if you have built-in shelving with storage units in your living room, remove everything you’re storing on those shelves that you’re not using, pack those items up (which you’ll have to do anyway), and use that space as an area where you can put your kids’ toys and other items away in a hurry. If you have a living room ottoman you normally store things in, that’s a great space to consider using too.
If you don’t have that kind of storage available in your living room, you can always just buy a couple of wicker baskets with lids on them to have around.
When it comes to your kids’ bedrooms, remember that their clothes are smaller and usually hang high inside their closets, which means you probably have plenty of space below that to store their things. Set down some clear bins with drawers in that area and label the drawers for their toys so they have a quick storage option.

In your master bedroom, remove and store away any clothes in your closet that you’re not using for the season. This will help you create more space for yourself and open up a spot to store any clutter from, say, the top of your vanity chest. Just collect all those items into a wicker basket and put it in your closet.
