If you’re a homeowner or soon-to-be homeowner, I have three New Year’s Resolutions that you should try to keep in 2018:
1. Check your home on a regular basis for any water issues. Check for water leaks all around the home. Specifically, keep a close eye on the roof, gutters, and foundation of your home. Doing this on a regular basis will alert you to any major problems right away and save you a lot of money down the road. We recently had a seller who was preparing their home and uncovered a major water leak in their home. The foundation repairs that they required were very costly, but they could have been avoided.
2. Make a “honey do list” of things to be done around the home that you and your family can do yourselves. Things like changing broken lights, straightening up the garage, and cleaning the gutters. Prioritize your list and take care of the biggest items first.

Identifying water issues in advance can save you thousands.

3. Make a to-do list of major projects and get some estimates. These are things you can’t do on your own, like remodeling the master bathroom or installing new cabinets. Talk to a real estate professional about what kinds of repairs will bring the most value to your home, then talk with a financial adviser to get estimates for the projects and they can help you determine the best way to get funds for them.
I hope this information has been helpful for you. If you have any questions for me in the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out via phone or email anytime. I’m always happy to help.
