Confusing Headlines

If you are looking at homes for sale, headlines in the media can be very confusing.  A single article in the Augusta Chronicle this week spoke of declining home prices nationwide and increasing home prices locally.  If you rely on the news, it is very difficult for a home buyer, or seller, to develop realistic expectations.

I have always found that the best way to get past generalizations is to look for detailed facts.  If you are evaluating a home that’s for sale, or even a few homes, the best thing to look at is comparable sales.  This information will show you what price homes have sold for recently and which way home prices are trending in the areas that interest you.  Once you have this information, you can not only be confident of a fair market price, but you can also rest assured that you will not miss a great deal on a home that is perfect for you.
