Aiken Homes

When people think of Aiken, they think of horses, and rightly so.  The equine industry’s impact in Aiken County tops $70 million annually.  But Aiken has so much more to offer.  Aiken homeowners enjoy the best of both worlds.  They enjoy the amenities of a big city without the negatives associated with living in a large metropolitan area.  The climate is another big plus.  Aikenites enjoy all four seasons without having to endure long periods of harsh weather.  The City also offers the perfect balance of charm, grace and heritage with a keen eye toward the future.  Recently, Aiken has become a hot spot for relocating young professions seeking a balance between the personal and professional lives.

In regards to housing, two key words come time: stable and affordable.  The average price of residential real estate has only fallen 2.7% from 2007 historical highs.  The median price of an Aiken home is approximately $155,000.  There is a neighborhood to fit every style.  Aiken is famous for it elegant Southern estates, and of course, there are neighborhoods designed specifically for horse and golf enthusiasts.  However, there are just as many options for those looking for a small bungalow or a neighborhood that is ideal for raising a family.

From an arts and recreation perspective, Aiken has a lot to offer.  If a horse is involved Aiken has it:  horse back riding and carriage driving in Hitchcock woods, polo, dressage, show jumping, flat races and the Steeplechase.  The “horse district” even boasts perfectly maintained, yet unpaved, city streets.  But again, Aiken offers so much more than horses.  The list includes: The Aiken Community Playhouse, the University of South Carolina Aiken’s Etherredge Center, The Aiken Center for the Arts, the Aiken Bluegrass Festival, the Chocolate Festival, Aiken Makin’ Arts Festival.  Two notable outdoor treasures include Hopeland Gardens a 14 acre public garden, and Hitchcock Woods, which is a 2,000 acre preserve located in the heart of downtown Aiken.

We think that Aiken is a great place to visit, but that it is even better to call Aiken home!
